The launch which took place at the Hyatt Regency the Kilimanjaro Hotel in Dar es Salaamwas officiated by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance - Tanzania, Dr. ServaciusLikwelile; the Resident Coordinator of the UN system and UNDP Resident Representative in Tanzania, Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez;and the Executive Director of the Economic and Social Research Foundation, Dr. H. B. Lunogelo.

ESRF Director of Programmes and THDR Project Manager, Dr. Tausi Kida together with Prof Marc Wuyts from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) presented the highlights of the main contents of the report; while Dr. Kenneth Mdadila, Department of Economics, University of Dar es Salaam. presented the highlight on the Statistical Annex of the THDR 2014.

Over the last decade, there has been a change in the focus of development policy away from mere quantitative changes in the rate of output, towards a concern for the changing qualitative nature of economic growth encapsulated in the concept of economic transformation. This report analyses the kinds of economic transformation needed for Tanzania to become a middle income country by 2025.

TheTanzania Human Development Report 2014– Economic Transformation for Human Development providesa broader understanding of the interplay between economic transformation and human development in Tanzania – its challenges, its’ opportunities, and its constraints.

The International Centre for Human Development (IC4HD), a joint initiative of the Government of India and UNDP, is pleased to announce the 2014 Human Development Fellowships for Young Professionals.

As you know, the Human Development Fellowships offered by the Centre support innovative analytical work on major human development issues. The theme of the 2014 fellowships is Social Protection and Security in the Global South.

Fellowships are open to young professionals including academics, civil servants and civil society practitioners. Fellows will hosted by the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies in Shimla, India, for three months. The deadline for submitting applications is 15 June 2014.
